“Mankind was once a single community, (but then people developed differences), so God sent prophets to them as bearers of good tidings and warning, and sent down with them the Book containing truth, so that He might judge between their disputes.”
As I read the different books, all pointing to the same God, I can see these differences. I remember lines in old movies where the actors talk of “your God” and how they don’t know who that is. God can feel as if a different entity when looked at by different tribes.
The theme I get from the Quran is fear. It makes me wonder if the Book was provided during a time when people had become so ego driven and entitled that they needed to be reminded we are not in charge. Dear God if you are not living His words.
As I read the Bible, I am in the Old Testament, I hear stories that could have been passed down. Stories of God’s goodness and of his deliverance of worthiness. Both good and bad. If you were Egypt, you were wrong and suffered. If you were Isreal, you did your best and were rewarded. One thing that sticks out to me are the mistakes people made. To think that God could still love so many people who were so flawed! It does give me hope.
As I read the Course, I hear the message of love. Of delusion and miracles. God is great and if we let Him, He will help us deliver miracles, He will open our eyes and awaken us to the truth. That God is Love.
I believe they all have their place and as I dove into more books, I’m sure they all do. Some people need fear to do the right thing. Some people need to know they are not alone and that God is forgiving. Some people need to know that God is Love.
Either way, we are all in this together.
